We started Nightral with one simple question: what are we resting our heads on for nearly a third of our lives?
On average, we spend close to a third of our lives asleep — more time than we spend doing almost anything else. Yet most of us never think twice about what's inside the pillow our head rests on, night after night. We didn't either, until we started asking.
Most pillows are packed with synthetic materials — like foam and polyester. These materials trap heat and moisture instead of letting our skin breathe. Over time, that can contribute to irritation, breakouts, and a pillow that holds onto odors and dust mites far more than it should.
Conventional textile processing can also involve chemicals — including phthalates, formaldehyde, and flame retardants — linked to hormone disruption when exposure builds up over time.
It's a problem hiding in plain sight — right under our heads, every single night.
Once we saw the problem, we went looking for a real solution — not just a "greener" version of the same thing, but something genuinely different from the ground up. We found it exactly where you'd expect — in nature itself, used exactly the way it was always meant to be.
We use organic cotton that starts in the soil — grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, so nothing harmful ever enters the fiber, the land it's grown on, or the water around it. From there, natural processing avoids the harsh chemicals, toxic dyes, and synthetic treatments used in conventional textile production — protecting the soil instead of depleting it, and keeping waterways free of the pollution that comes with chemical-heavy manufacturing. It's better for the people making it, better for the people sleeping on it, and better for the earth it all comes from.
